The 1st Asia Conference of International Building Performance Simulation Association – ASim2012, was successfully held at Tongji University, Shanghai, China from November 25 to 27, 2012. As a start of IBPSA meeting series, this meeting aimed at promoting the development of building simulation technologies in Asia. It was hosted by Tongji University and co-hosted by Tsinghua University, IBPSA-China, IBPSA-Japan and IBPSA-Korea. This biennial conference will be held in Japan in 2014 next time.
With the theme of simulation for real performance, ASim2012 Technical program consists of four keynote speeches given by four internationally renowned scholars - “Occupant Behavior Simulation in Building” by Prof. Yi Jiang from Tsinghua University, “Control of Airflow in Data Center - CFD and Ventilation Effectiveness Analysis” by Prof. Shinsuke Kato from University of Tokyo in Japan, “Comfort, Simulation and Energy with Radiant Heating and Cooling System” by Prof. Kwang Woo Kim from Seoul National University in Korea and “Trends: Buildings, Technologies and Energy Simulation” by Dr. Drury B. Crawley from Bentley in USA, and six workshops organized by many research institutes and famous companies - “Energy Performance of Buildings: the Road Ahead” by LBNL& Tsinghua, “Urban Scale Modeling and Low Carbon City Design” by IBR, ” Optimization for Real Performance” by WELDTECH, “Building Performance Simulation in Practice” by EMSI, “Climate and Energy Design for Buildings – Supported by New Simulation Tools” by HAWK and “Advanced Daylighting Technology, HVAC Control and Integrated Software & Interface” by several software companies.
In conference proceedings, 87 papers are included around 7 topics – “Building Envelope Performance”, “Energy System and Equipment”, “Thermal Comfort and Occupant Behaviors”, “Natural and Mixed Ventilation”, “Whole Building Modeling”, “Building Automatic Control” and “CFD for Building Performance”. A Best Oral Paper, a Best Poster Paper and a Best Student Paper were selected and rewarded in ASim2012.
212 participants have attended the meeting, who are from Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, Japan, South Korea, India, Finland, German, Netherland, Sweden, England and USA. Comprehensive and insightful discussion was performed around the theme of the conference. In addition, thanks for the technical support from Ehvacr.com (http://www.ehvacr.com/), the whole process of the conference was able to be watched live on the website, providing those who couldn’t attend the meeting a valuable opportunity to get the report of renowned scholars and to learn the latest technologies and research achievements in the simulation field in Asia.
